To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a statement about the availability of medium-term cover to the Soviet Union from the Export Credits Guarantee Department for the use of British exporters.

Mr. Sainsbury

ECGD cover for medium-term export credits for the Soviet Union is currently being reviewed and new commitments are not being undertaken pending the outcome of the review.

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will list those Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development countries which at present offer medium-term cover export credits for business with the Soviet Union and those which do not.

Mr. Sainsbury

As far as is known, all OECD members are presently offering cover for medium-term export credits for the Soviet Union with the exception of Sweden, which is postponing decisions on new applications.
