Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what contacts he has had with the chairman and chief executive of Sun Alliance regarding its proposed bid for the Insurance Services Group of ECGD.

Mr. Sainsbury

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State has had no such contacts.

Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what provision he made to establish a reserve price for net proceeds to the Exchequer from the sale of the Insurance Services Group of ECGD.

Mr. Sainsbury

Price will be an important but not the sole criterion in decisions about the sale of the short-term business of ECGD.

Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what information he has on the dates on which the management team of(a) Assicurazioni Generali, (b) NCM, (c) Trade Indemnity and (d) any other bidders visited Cardiff with a view to preparing bids for the Insurance Services Group of ECGD.

Mr. Sainsbury

Visits to Cardiff were offered to each of the management teams of the companies invited to tender for the short-term business of ECGD. The dates on which those visits took place were as follows:

Date
Trade Indemnity 3 April
Sun Alliance 4 April
Assicurazioni Generali 10 April

Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what facilities were given to representatives of the appropriate trade unions to meet the management of Assuricazioni Generali, NCM, COBAC, Eagle Star, Sun Alliance and Trade Indemnity during their exploratory visits to ECGD, Cardiff, prior to finalising their bids for the Insurance Services Group.

Mr. Sainsbury

Each of the shortlisted companies invited to bid for the short-term business of ECGD was invited by Government to meet representatives of the appropriate trade unions during their visit to Cardiff. Each company which visited Cardiff had such a meeting.
