Mr. Madden

To ask the Minister for the Arts what control he exercises over the decisions by the British Film Institute on the allocation of its budgets; whether he monitors the implications of such decisions; and what reserve powers he has to overturn such decisions.

Mr. Renton

The OAL's relations with its grant-in-aid-funded bodies is on an arm's-length basis. The BFI's proposals for the allocation of its budget are monitored through the annual submissions of its corporate plan.
