HC Deb 28 March 1991 vol 188 cc512-3W
Mr. Madden

To ask the Minister for the Arts how much funding his Department has provided directly or indirectly to the national museum of photography and the British Film Institute over each of the past three years, to date; what is his policy on cross-funding by bodies funded by his Department; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Renton

Since 1988 my Department has provided the following funding to the British Film Institute:

£ million
1988–89 11.30
1989–90 11.90
1990–91 12.75

In each of those years the national museum of science and industry has allocated some 10 per cent. of its grant in aid to the national museum of photography, film and television. The allocation for 1991–92 will amount to some £2 million. Cross-funding by Office of Arts and Libraries-funded bodies may occur, provided they are acting within their respective functions, however defined.
