HC Deb 06 March 1991 vol 187 cc192-3W
Mr. Hardy

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what estimate he has made in his assessment of funding levels for the local authorities of the annual cost which will be incurred by the current plan for regeneration of the Dearne valley; how many years he expects this project to take; and what central support he expects to provide during this period.

Mr. Key

We are today announcing a package of additional Government assistance for the Dearne valley including increased derelict land grant and urban programme allocations to the local authorities of Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham and two city grants to the private sector to stimulate economic regeneration in the area. Revenue support for local authorities is assessed annually. This is based on a broad set of principles which take account of the social, demographic and physical characteristics of each area.
