HC Deb 17 June 1991 vol 193 c30W
35. Mr. Grocott

To ask the Attorney-General what weight the Crown prosecution service gives to uncorroborated confessions obtained in police custody.

The Attorney-General

The code for Crown prosecutors requires that the prosecution be satisfied that confession evidence has been properly obtained and has not been obtained by oppressive behaviour. A prosecution may be brought on the basis of an uncorroborated confession provided that the Crown prosecutor is satisfied that it was properly obtained and that there is a realistic prospect of a conviction.
