HC Deb 17 June 1991 vol 193 c30W
34. Mr. Skinner

To ask the Attorney-General if he will make a statement on the work of the Serious Fraud Office.

The Attorney-General

Since its inception the Serious Fraud Office has brought 54 cases involving 123 defendants to trial, 85 of whom—over two thirds—were convicted. In 1990–91 the average duration between acceptance of a case for investigation by SFO and its committal or transfer to the Crown court was 11.8 months. I believe that we are making good progress in reducing the time taken to deal with such cases.
