HC Deb 14 June 1991 vol 192 c705W
Mr. Speller

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the average length of time taken to test and approve a veterinary compound for use on livestock; and what was the time taken for the most recently licensed sheep dip compound.

Mr. Maclean

Following its establishment as a next steps agency in April 1990, one of the veterinary medicines directorate's published 1991 targets is for 100 per cent. of assessments to be completed within 120 days clock time—that is, excluding time when an application is referred back to the applicant for further information—of acceptance.

The most recently licensed sheep dip compound was approved in 1988 and its assessment took 498 days clock time to complete.
