HC Deb 13 June 1991 vol 192 c657W
24. Mr. Harry Greenway

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how much money was spent on sport per capita in the Province in the past year and in 1978–79 at current prices; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. Mawhinney

Comprehensive records about how much money is spent on sport in Northern Ireland are not held centrally.

Grants paid on sport in Northern Ireland by Government per capita, for 1990–91 and 1978–79 at current prices are respectively £1.30 and £1.32 on recurrent items and £0.65 and £8.85 on capital projects. The reduction in capital expenditure reflects the fact that the provision of major leisure facilities across the Province has progressively been completed during the 1980s.
