HC Deb 06 June 1991 vol 192 c333W
14. Mr. Harry Greenway

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many people were given refugee status in each of the past two years; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

Around 3,000 people, including associated dependants, were recognised as refugees in 1989 in the United Kingdom. For 1990 the provisional figure recorded at present is about 1,600, but this is likely to understate because of delays in recording.
