HC Deb 06 June 1991 vol 192 c333W
13. Mr. Skinner

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will meet pensioner representatives to discuss free television licences for pensioners; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

Giving free licences to all pensioners, including those who are well able to pay the fee, would cost £470 million a year, and would mean that everyone else would have to pay £116 for their colour licence. We have no plans to change the present arrangements and a meeting would serve no useful purpose.
