§ Mr. FlynnTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will make it his policy to assist in the widespread distribution in the United Kingdom of the forthcoming annual world development report of the World Bank on environmental and development matters.
§ Mrs. ChalkerThe 1991 World development report, "The Challenge of Development", was published by the World Bank on 8 July. I endorse its main thesis that successful development requires the public and private sectors each to play an appropriate role, and to do so effectively. Copies of the report have been placed in the Library of the House.
The 1992 report will deal with development and the environment and will be published next April.
World development reports deserve to be widely distributed and the World Bank already has machinery in place to achieve this.
