HC Deb 01 July 1991 vol 194 cc74-5W
Dr. David Clark

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether his Ministry has yet received planning permission for the new veterinary investigation centres at Bury St. Edmunds and Warwickshire; at what stage his plans are for constructing the new centres; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Curry

Outline planning permission was granted by St. Edmundsbury borough council for a new veterinary investigation centre at Bury St. Edmunds on 18 February 1991. The plans for constructing the new centre are now at sketch plan stage. The building is on programme to be completed in mid-1993. For the new centre at Warwickshire a site has been identified on Ministry of Agriculture-owned land at Luddington and an outline planning application was submitted to Stratford-upon-Avon district council at the beginning of June, under the Department of the Environment circular 18/14. The plans for constructing this centre are also at sketch plan stage and the design is on programme for completion of the building in mid-1993.

Dr. David Clark

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what was the percentage of the total United Kingdom statutory salmonella work carried out at the veterinary investigation centre in Lincoln for each year since 1986; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Gummer

It is not possible to provide the information requested for the years prior to 1990. In the period 1 April 1990 to 31 March 1991, 3.6 per cent. of the total statutory salmonella work in Great Britain was carried out in the Lincoln veterinary investigation centre.
