§ Dr. David ClarkTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will conduct a full investigation into the source of the dioxin contamination which is affecting milk in farms in Derbyshire; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. GummerI am setting in hand a programme of further work in this area which is designed to throw light on the ways in which dioxins have come to be found in milk. This will include examinations of soil and grass. Her Majesty's inspectorate of pollution will also be carrying out investigations. The results of the surveillance work will be published.
§ Dr. David ClarkTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will name the farms in Derbyshire which have contamination of dioxin in milk above recommended levels; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. GummerHaving received their agreement, I have passed the names and addresses of the two farmers concerned to the hon. Member for Bolsover (Mr. Skinner) but, as I have explained to him, they have indicated that they do not wish their names to be generally publicised.
