HL Deb 09 December 1991 vol 533 cc20-1WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will hold discussions with the governments of China, Malaysia, Singapore, Pakistan, the Yugoslav Republics and other countries, with a view to reducing the supplies of arms that have been reaching the military government in Burma.

Lord Cavendish of Furness

Following the agreement of EC Foreign Ministers on 9th July to impose an arms embargo on Burma, the EC Presidency approached each of the countries named —and others—to urge them to stop providing arms to Burma. We shall continue to raise this issue with other countries whenever suitable opportunities arise.
