HL Deb 02 December 1991 vol 533 cc3-4WA
Lord Colnbrook

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will make a statement about Ministers' pay.

The Lord Privy Seal (Lord Waddington)

The salaries of Ministers and other paid office holders were last increased from 1st January 1991 under the terms of the Ministerial and other Salaries Order 1990. The Government have considered carefully the level of ministerial salaries and, taking all factors into account, propose a 4.5 per cent. increase in all Ministers' and paid office holders' salaries. The details are set out in the attached table and I have today laid the draft Ministerial and other Salaries Order 1991 to implement these changes from 1st January 1992.

In accordance with the resolution of the House of Commons of 21st July 1987, the reduced parliamentary salaries of Commons Ministers and paid office holders will increase by 6.5 per cent. to £23,227 from 1st January 1992.
