To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the level of the United Kingdom's contribution to European Community funds since 1973 up to and including the estimate for 1992(a) gross and (b) net, both in cash terms and after adjusting for inflation.

[holding answer 28 November 1991]: The United Kingdom's total gross and net contributions to the European Community budget, in current and constant 1990 prices for the years 1973–90, are set out in the table. A forecast for 1991, in current prices of £3,973 million (gross) and £1,225 million (net) was published in the "Statement on the 1991 Community Budget" (Cm 1490). The outturn for 1991 and a forecast for 1992 will be included in the 1992 statement, which will be published early next year.
