HC Deb 23 October 1990 vol 178 c166W
Mr. Simon Coombs

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many complaints have been made in each year since the bringing into force of section 45 of the Education (No. 2) Act 1986.

Mr. Eggar

The Department's records do not distinguish between complaints made under sections 44 and 45 of the Education (No. 2) Act 1986. Since the 1986 Act came into force, the Department has received a total of 37 complaints about political indoctrination in schools. Some have named a particular school or LEA; others have simply expressed concern about the availability of teaching materials alleged to be biased. The total number of complaints received each year is set out in the table.
