HL Deb 25 June 1990 vol 520 c1428WA
Lord Northfield

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What amendments to the EC draft regulation on game meat they intend to press in order to secure beyond doubt that park deer shall be classed as wild deer, and that only those parts of a deer carcase infested by warble fly shall be classified as unfit for human consumption.

Baroness Trumpington

It is the view of the EC Commission that their proposals would permit member states to treat park deer as wild deer. Nevertheless, in negotiations the Government will seek to ensure that measures adopted by the Council leave no room for doubt about this. The Government will also endeavour to ensure that only those parts of a carcase infested with warble fly need be condemned.

The Government are ready to consider the views of all interests concerned on these and any other points arising from the Commission's proposals.
