What is their estimate of the sums which have been invested by the taxpayer in (a) the Victoria and Albert Museum and (b) the British Museum (Natural History, including the Geological Museum) since their foundation.

In the early history both museums were combined with other institutions and it is not possible reliably to estimate the total resources invested in them by the taxpayer since their foundation. For details of funding since 1979/80 I refer the noble Lord to my Answer to his earlier Question on 23rd May (HL Deb. col 1014).
