To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if European Community legislation applies to(a) the Azores, (b) Ceuta, (c) Melilla and (d) Diego Garcia.

Mr. Garel-Jones

Community legislation applies in the Azores and in Ceuta and Melilla, subject to derogations pursuant to the Act of Spanish and Portuguese Accession. Community legislation does not apply in Diego Garcia, though the British Indian Ocean Territory is associated with the Community under the provisions of part IV of the EEC treaty and Council decision 86/283/EEC.
