HC Deb 25 July 1990 vol 177 c291W
Mr. Strang

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, pursuant to his answer to the hon. Member for Islington, North (Mr. Corbyn),Official Report, 13 June, column 262, if he will make a statement on the implications for United Kingdom foreign policy of the transfer of nuclear submarines to India from the Soviet Union.

Mr. Waldegrave

One nuclear-powered submarine has been leased to the Indian navy by the Soviet Union. We understand that the special fissionable material involved has remained under Soviet control. This seems to present no specific issues in relation to United Kingdom foreign policy.
