§ Mr. Alex CarlileTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement concerning Her Majesty's Government's policy towards Malta's application to join the European Community.
§ Mr. MaudeMalta intends to submit an EC membership application on 16 July. We expect the Council to refer the application to the European Commission for its opinion in the normal way. We share the consensus in the Community that there should be no decisions on enlargement until at least 1993.
