HC Deb 12 July 1990 vol 176 c307W
Mr. Bernie Grant

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the Government's policy to the recently submitted application by the Government of the Republic of Cyprus to join the European Community.

Mr. Alex Carlile

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement concerning Her Majesty's Government's policy towards Cyprus's application to join the European Community.

Mr. Maude

The handling of the Cyprus application may be discussed at the 16 July General Affairs Council. In considering the application, the Council will need to take into account the unresolved inter-communal dispute. In any event, we share the consensus in the Community that there should be no decisions on enlargement until at least 1993.
