HL Deb 15 January 1990 vol 514 c514WA
Viscount Hanworth

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is their latest estimate of the costs per kilowatt-hour of electricity supplied directly from (1) a modern coal-fired power station, and (2) the advanced gas-cooled reactor at Torness; and what percentage of the latter figure is attributable to de-commissioning costs.

The Minister of State, Scottish Office (Lord Sanderson of Bowden)

The cost of generating electricity at different power stations depends on a number of factors, not least the price of fuels. As these are operational and commercial matters for the boards, I have asked the Chairman of the South of Scotland Electricity Board to write to the noble Lord.
