To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he has plans to upgrade the Government's response to the Ethiopian famine.

In my reply on 31 January,Official Report, column 189, to a question from the hon. Member for Cynon Valley (Mrs. Clwyd), I announced a substantial new commitment of food and emergency aid of £3.6 million in addition to commitments totalling £18.5 million in 1989. We shall continue to respond positively to the renewed threat of famine in Ethiopia.
