HC Deb 18 April 1990 vol 170 cc860-1W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if the Central Statistical Office will now be producing the monthly tables of trade statistics previously issued by the Department of Trade and Industry; if the Central Statistical Office will continue to specify the extent of the United Kingdom's trade deficit or surplus which relates to trade with the European Economic Community; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lilley

The enlarged Central Statistical Office took over responsibility for visible trade statistics on 31 July 1989. It continues to publish the monthly statistics of trade formerly issued by the Department of Trade and Industry, including table Al2 of the monthly review of external trade statistics which specifies the extent of the United Kingdom's deficit or surplus with the European Economic Community. The information can also be found on the Central Statistical Office database, which may be accessed through the Library of the House.
