HC Deb 20 March 1989 vol 149 c430W
Mr. Goodlad

To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what percentage of the economy of the north-west consists of manufacturing industry; and what is the national average.

Mr. Atkins

Provisional figures for 1987 indicate that manufacturing industry contributed 30.6 per cent. to the north-west standard region's gross domestic product (at factor cost and current prices). This compares with an average figure for the United Kingdom of 24.8 per cent.
