HC Deb 24 July 1989 vol 157 c477W
Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the intention of Her Majesty's Government as regards entering a reservation on behalf of Hong Kong at the CITES meeting in October when consideration is given to appendix I listing of African elephants.

Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

[holding answer 20 July 1989]: The Government support the case for the transfer of the African elephant to appendix I. We are in discussion with Hong Kong on the effect of such listing. All relevant issues will be discussed at the conference of the parties to CITES at Lausanne in October.
