§ Mr. David NicholsonTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has made to the Government of Hungary regarding recent progress in that country towards democracy and individual freedom; and if he will make a statement on the current state of relations with Hungary.
§ Mr. WaldegraveWe welcome Hungary's moves towards a multi-party system and a state based on the rule of law. My right hon. and learned Friend discussed these matters with the Hungarian State Minister, Imre Pozsgay, on 25 April. I am visiting Hungary next week, and will meet a wide range of party, Government and opposition figure.
177WOur bilateral relations with Hungary are excellent, with regular contact at all levels, as befits a country in the vanguard of political reform in Eastern Europe.
