HL Deb 06 February 1989 vol 503 c1423WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the new station at RAF Fylingdales is to be capable of use in any Anti-Ballistic Missile system, whether strategic or "tactical".

The Minister of State for Defence Procurement (Lord Trefgarne)

The modernised radar at RAF Fylingdales will perform the same functions as the present system, which is to provide early warning of a strategic ballistic missile attack. It will not have an ABM role.
