Mr. Strang

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many complaints relating to pesticide usage were received by each Health and Safety Executive area office during the first nine months of 1988.

Mr. Nicholls

The information for individual area offices could be obtained only at disproportionate cost. The total number of complaints relating to pesticide usage received by the Health and Safety Executive during this period was 105.

Mr. Strang

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what is the extent of the backlog in non-agricultural pesticide approvals undertaken by the Health and Safety Executive's medical division.

Mr. Nicholls

The Health and Safety Executive currently has 300 outstanding applications for approval of non-agricultural pesticides under the Control of Pesticides Regulations, 1986. About one third of these have been received in the last three months.
