§ Ms. ShortTo ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will provide(a) the gross cost of community programme for the last year, (b) the net costs of community programme for the last year and (c) a breakdown of how the net costs were calculated.
§ Mr. NichollsIn 1987–88 the gross cost of the community programme was £1,110 million and the net cost of the programme was estimated to be £508 million. The net costs of the community programme are the gross costs of the programme less the estimated flowbacks in the form of net savings in benefit and net inflows from taxes.
