HC Deb 03 November 1988 vol 139 cc773-4W
Mr. Ward

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment whether approval has now been given for an experiment to be made in early 1989 to control the Blandford Fly; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Nicholls

Ministers responsible for the approval of pesticides have received advice from the independent advisory committee on pesticides. Before Ministers can approve the trial it is necessary to check that it would not contravene the Control of Pollution Act 1974 or the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries Act 1975. This is even now being considered by the Departments concerned.
