§ Mr. McNamaraTo ask the Attorney-General if he will give for each of the following categories of crime, namely murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, wounding with intent to do serious bodily harm, possession of firearms or explosives with intent, possessing firearms or explosives, other major firearms offences and membership of an illegal organisation, the number of cases reported to and investigated by the Director of Public Prosecutions, the number of persons charged and the number of persons convicted who were serving members of the security forces at the time of the alleged offence in the years 1986 and 1987.
§ The Attorney-GeneralI regret that the figures requested are not kept separately by the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. To ascertain whether the defendant in a case in any of the categories mentioned was a serving member of the security forces at the time of the alleged offence would involve checking each case individually. This could not be done without incurring disproportionate cost.
