To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what assessment he has made of the implications for relations with the Commonwealth of the planned World XV rugby tour to South Africa; and if he will make a statement.

As my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister made clear, we stand by the statement made by Commonwealth Heads of Government in June 1977 — the so-called Gleneagles Agreement—which discourages sporting contacts with South Africa.
