HC Deb 31 March 1988 vol 130 cc663-7W
Mr. Rowe

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what are the annual figures for the number of children received into care by reason of homelessness: if he will give this information for England as a whole and for each local authority area; what are the latest figures for the number of children in local authority care where the reason for their admission into care was homelessness; if he will give this information for England as a whole for each local authority area for the years ended 31 March 1985, 1986 and 1987 or the three most recent years; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Currie

[holding answer 25 March 1988]: A child may be taken into care for a number of reasons of which homelessness may be a contributory factor, although not identified as a specific cause in the statistics.

Information on children in care where the specific cause was that their family was homeless is given in the tables for 1984, 1985 and 1986 for each local authority in England.
