To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the annual cost to the National Health Service of the treatment of leg injuries sustained by motor cyclists in road traffic accidents.

[holding answer 29 March 1988]: The annual cost to the National Health Service of treating injuries to motor cyclists and their passengers is estimated to be £22 million (England 1986). Information is not available on the cost of particular types of injury.
