HC Deb 22 March 1988 vol 130 cc71-2W
Mr. McTaggart

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on funding for schemes to allow nursing staff to update their skills to enable them to return to work.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

Former nursing staff can update their skills to enable them to return to clinical practice in the NHS through attending "Back to Nursing" courses, or through participation in nurse banks which offer them temporary postings. These schemes are the responsibility of, and are funded by, individual health boards.

Mr. McTaggart

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the shortfall in nursing staff in each health board in Scotland; and if he will make a statement.
