HC Deb 02 March 1988 vol 128 c621W
Mr. Beggs

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what action is being taken to identify victims of myalgic encephalomyelitis in Northern Ireland; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Needham

The diagnosis of this condition is a matter for the medical profession.

Mr. Beggs

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what financial assistance has been made available to myalgic encephalomyelitis support groups in Northern Ireland to date; and if he plans to fund a professional regional worker in the forthcoming financial year.

Mr. Needham

An application from an myalgic encephalomyelitis support group for funding of a development officer is at present being considered along with other competing applications for grants by voluntary organisations. No previous requests for help by such groups have been made to the Department or the health and social services boards.
