HC Deb 23 June 1988 vol 135 cc699-700W
Mr. Fallon

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how much is being spent per head in(a) the northern region and (b) Scotland in support for urban regeneration, factory provision and derelict land clearance.

Mr. Trippier

Estimated spending on my Department's urban regeneration programmes in 1987–88, per head of the northern region's population, was £22.7, of which spending on derelict land reclamation was £3.86 per head.

Expenditure in Scotland is a matter for my right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland; expenditure on factory provision generally is a matter for my right hon. and learned Friend the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster.

Note:

1. Urban regeneration programmes include urban development grant and urban regeneration grant (now city grant), urban development corporations, the urban programme, derelict land grant and estate action.

2. Mid-1987 population estimates are not yet available; mid-1986 estimates have therefore been used.

3. Urban programme, urban development grant and urban regeneration grant include some spending on factory provision.
