§ Mr. Gerald BowdenTo ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the current, average, annual, per student full cost of undergraduate tuition, excluding capital costs, for degree courses in veterinary science, medicine, law, physics, modern languages and English, at(a) university and (b) polytechnic.
Mr. JacksonTable 9 of "University Statistics 1985–86—Volume 3, Finance" provides information (excluding some central costs) about university academic provision within each of 37 cost centres. Similar information about polytechnic provision in each of 17 cost centres is contained in "Polytechnic Expenditure, Actual 1986–87". Copies of both volumes are in the Library. The cost centres do not necessarily tally with the individual subjects identified in the question but, in any case, the figures do not permit the separation of first degree course tuition costs from other departmental activity.
