HC Deb 20 June 1988 vol 135 cc382-3W
Mr. Cox

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what has been the number of letters his Department has received to date from parents of children attending schools in the Inner London education authority area who(a) expressed opposition to the abolition of the authority and (b) approved of the abolition.

Mrs. Rumbold

Some 3,350 letters have been received since the announcement of the Government's proposals on 4 February. Correspondents do not always give their circumstances and it is therefore not possible to state how many are parents. Initially, many correspondents expressed concern at the proposals, but as these have become better understood the emphasis has shifted to inquiries about specific areas of education.
