HC Deb 20 June 1988 vol 135 c383W
Mr. Ashley

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what research into amnesia has been and is being supported by his Department; and what plans there are to increase it.

Mr. Jackson

I understand that the Medical Research Council (MRC) is currently supporting 10 research projects on amnesia. In the financial year 1986–87, the last year for which figures are available, the council's expenditure on this research was £254,000. The MRC also supports a variety of other projects which have a bearing on aspects of memory. University departments and medical schools also undertake research in this area supported by UGC block grant funds. The MRC will consider soundly based scientific proposals for further research in amnesia in competition with other applications.
