§ Mr. DykesTo ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a detailed statement on the up-to-date progress being made on the individual plans to set up the various city technology colleges in the various sites earmarked for this purpose.
§ Mrs. RumboldSponsorship for six city technology colleges has now been announced. The first, sponsored by384W Hanson plc in Kingshurst, Birmingham will open in September this year, the second CTC, in Nottingham, sponsored by Mr. H. Djanogly, CBE, will open in September 1989 when I hope that the Teesside CTC sponsored by BAT Industries will also open. Dixons plc, the Sir Philip and Pauline Harris Trust, and jointly, the Mercers' Company and Thamesmead Town have announced their sponsorship of three more CTCs. We are making good progress in discussions with a number of other prospective sponsors and over prospective buildings-sites.
