To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether his Department has incurred any cost in drawing up a proposal to establish a city technology college in Thamesmead; and if he will make a statement.

No. The cost of planning for the proposed Thamesmead CTC is being borne by the prospective sponsors. The cost of local consultation prior to a decision on the publication of related proposals under section 12 of the Education Act 1980 would be met by Bexley local education authority. As part of their normal duties, officials in the Department have given information and advice to the prospective sponsors and to the local education authority.

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he has discussed with the sponsors of the proposed city technology college in Thamesmead the college's admission policy; and if he will make a statement.

Officials at the Department have advised the prospective sponsors of the proposed Thamesmead CTC of the general policy for admission to city technology colleges and ways in which it might be applied in the particular circumstances in Thamesmead.
