HC Deb 17 June 1988 vol 135 cc363-4W
Sir Bernard Braine

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give details of the numbers of persons in England and Wales known to be suffering from myalgic encephalomyelitis; what is the current state of research into the causes and treatment of the disease; what financial help is given to the ME Association and its work for sufferers; and whether he will make a statement.

Mrs. Currie

I recently announced a grant of £5,000 to the Myalgic Encephalomyelitis Association. Research of relevance to ME is being conducted but detailed information about this work and data on the number of sufferers are not held centrally.
