HC Deb 10 June 1988 vol 134 c696W
Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many police officers were involved in the security exercise at Gatwick airport on 7 June; how many vehicles were stopped and searched; on whose authority the exercise was mounted; and what was the total cost involved in the exercise.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

The security operation held at Gatwick airport on 7 June by the Sussex police was a routine operation and was approved by the Home Office. Because of the nature of the deployment it would not be appropriate to provide details of the number of police officers involved or the costs of the operation. The operation involved no change in the standard force procedures for stopping and searching vehicles.
