To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the number of visitors to the United Kingdom from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand in each of the years from 1976 to 1987 inclusive, broken down by country.

Information on the numbers of visitors admitted to the United Kingdom by nationality is published annually in table 1 of "Control of Immigration: Statistics, United Kingdom" (Cm 166 for the issue for 1986), copies of which are in the Library. The issue for 1987 will be published next month; however the figures requested for 1987 are as follows:
