To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food why the paint issued to farmers in Cumbria to mark their sheep following the restrictions after Chernobyl contained no label indicating that it was harmful.

The tins did carry a warning in the form of a manufacturer's label.

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will place in the Library the data sheet of application details of Dac-Chlor A.A. paint issued to farmers to mark sheep in the restricted areas following the Chernobyl disaster.

Examples of the written instructions issued by the Ministry to farmers concerning the application of Doc Chlor AA paint are being placed in the Library of the House.

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food why the tins of paint issued to farmers to mark their sheep in the restricted area of Cumbria, following the Chernobyl disaster were collected in by his staff when the paint had been used and the tins emptied; and if he will make a statement.

The used tins were collected for accounting purposes and to ensure that all supplies had been fully utilised.
